The Scheffer FAMILY

Ken Scheffer was born to do excavating! His dad started Sumas Transport in the late 1960’s, with job sites full of equipment that were every little boys dream. By age 10, Ken had witnessed the construction of the present day BP Refinery. From the front a seat of a dump truck, he watched the team haul equipment up the treacherous Alaska Highway. That experience proved to be the foundation of lifelong career in excavating that Ken continues to build on to this day.

After supervising successful projects such as original development of Woburn Street and what is now Barkley Village, Ken and his wife Charmae went out on their own and bought a small excavation company in Pasco, WA in 1994. They loved working together and building a life for them and their 7 children.  In 2007 Ken was offered a job on “the coast” and the family moved back to the rainy side of the mountains. Ken has worked in the Seattle area as a Superintendent of multiple multi-million dollar developments and municipal road construction for the past 10 years. Now it is time to bring him home to Whatcom county and for him to teach his sons the excavation trade.

It is an honor for us to continue a great excavating legacy by purchasing Dahlgren Excavation, renamed 7 Spades Excavation after our 7 children.

7 Spades Excavating is the culmination of 30 years of experience in the excavating industry. Communication between clients and the team alike makes sure that there are no surprises. Ken foresees conflicts before they happen which prevents larger issues and keeps the projects moving efficiently. Our goal is to exceed every expectation and demonstrate quality that can only come from an excavating legacy.
